The 2024 Field Day is now in the history books. It was a great event this year with almost 30 people attending and over half of those helping with setup and participating on the air! We had 5 stations on the air this year and lots of opportunities to operate whatever mode on whatever band you wanted.
While the temperatures were up in the 90s on Saturday, we were blessed with a camper that had AC so that some of us could get some relief from the heat and sun. The camper housed both the digital station and a CW station that had a variety of keys that you could try out!
We had a SSB station set up under a very nice tent that is loaned to us every year by Dave, KD8HMQ, and that station benefited by a beam that was put up on a 30 foot portable tower provided by Gene, NA8I. Joe, KE8ZOS, operated this station (with occasional help from others) faithfully from the start of the event, until we started tearing everything down on Sunday, almost a full 24 hours!
Michael, N8MJR, showed up with his portable solar shack! The solar panels are mounted on top of the shack with the vertical antenna mounted to the side. This is a great portal shack for doing pota!
While Stan, AC8W, didn’t have much luck with the VHF (6m) setup, he did do 5W on solar power and got France on a Chelegance MC-750 vertical antenna! Special thanks to Trisha, KA8AMX, for logging so Stan could concentrate on those contacts!
Later in the evening on Saturday, we had a visit by Joe, KF8ANH, with Team Rubicon to help out with any power needs using their Ford F-150xl that had a built in 4KW generator. This thing was very nice and a very quiet power source! Also thanks for the burgers! They were very much appreciated!
We have lots of pictures in our gallery here that you can check out. Be sure to also check out our Facebook group for more pictures!
73 and thanks to everyone that participated!
